Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is John Sun and I am currently a third year graduate student in EECS. I work in the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) with Prof. Vivek Goyal and am interested in research problems related to information theory, signal processing and inference. I did my undergrad at Cornell University and call my hometown Vancouver, Canada.
Outside the lab and classroom, I am involved in several organizations on campus. I am the Co-president of the EECS Graduate Student Association and a peer mediator in EECS REFS. Previously, I served as the inventory chair in the Sidney-Pacific Graduate Residence and president of HKN at Cornell. I also enjoy playing basketball and volleyball at the Z Center, and attending concerts around Boston. I am an avid film buff and recently became interested in digital photography as a hobby.
I am starting this blog because I am excited how new media has the potential to change the academic landscape. Many researchers use blogs and feeds to disseminate information about their research, classes and life with great success, while creating interesting and thoughtful virtual communities. I don’t have such lofty goals for my humble blog, but do hope that it can provide some new insight to graduate life. Thanks for reading and feel free to send me feedback!
