Just some amusement

I kid you not, the following conversation actually happened.

The scene: My apartment, last week during the Angels-Yankees ALCS
The actors: My roommate, myself

Roommate: I really like the number 14.

Me: Why’s that? Because it’s even.

Roommate: Yeah! It’s so pretty.

Me: Oh, I like odd numbers. I have a thing for prime numbers.

[I rolled my eyes at my own statement here because, I have a thing for prime numbers? What?]

Roommate: Prime numbers are ugly.

Me: Why? Because they have no factors?

Roommate: Exactly!

Yes, my roommate also goes to MIT.

Go Yankees!

I could not understand. Finally prime numbers are ugly or beautiful? ;)
I think most of people like even numbers. What do you think?

Odd numbers for me, thanks. With exceptions, of course. But where would we engineers be without the number, three? (Don’t answer that.)

prime numbers are best….bcos they are free and alone

I love how everyone has an opinion on this.

Fereshteh - I have no idea what popular opinion is about odd vs. even numbers. I would guess most people like odd numbers, but then my roommate and I had this discussion.

Ted - I totally agree. Three is, of course, the magic number. :-) (Blind Melon told me.)

Apoo - I think prime numbers are best because they’re so unique!

Come on, as EECS majors, you have to have a special place in your heart for powers of 2 :)

I’m really curious whether even numbers are popular or odd ones?
But I remember from my childhood that always in games in which we chose unique names for ourselves we always fought to get even numbers and specially 2! I don’t know why?!

    Laura, I agree with you…
